MINISTRY

Supporting our seniors

The Charles City County Meals on Wheels program helps us compassionately care for our aging friends and neighbors. Westover Parish Hall hosts the county’s program, serving as an essential distribution point. By partnering with Meals on Wheels and providing friendship, daily contact and nutrition, we are making our community stronger, safer and more self-sufficient.

We work with Adult Services at the Charles City Department of Social Services to spread the word about adult abuse, neglect and exploitation. We also help coordinate projects that meet critical needs for adults in our community.  Some projects include the Soup for Seniors program, the Storm Survival Kits for Seniors, and Santa for Seniors.

Serving our youth

Each year during the holidays, we join forces with the Charles City Department of Social Services to help families in need with our Santa For Kids program. Through the delivery of new Christmas toys where there might not be any otherwise, Santa For Kids seeks to contribute to breaking the cycle of financial hardship by identifying and “adopting” children of the county.

Feeding the needy

Every year, we collect food and money and put together wonderful food baskets for those who need a little extra care. The baskets are provided to the Charles City Department of Social Services to distribute to the community.

TIGER PACKS FOR CHARLES CITY SCHOOLS

With our support we help the Charles City Schools provide children with meals for evenings and weekends. The Tiger Pack Program begins in October and continues through the school year.

WALTER PAIGE’S MISSIONARY KITCHEN

Using our facility and the gifts of the church, Walter has been able to provide a generous meal to over 300 people once a month.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE

2021 giving set a new record of giving with more than $11,000 raised. That money helped us provide a complete Thanksgiving dinner to over 140 families (more than 1,500 people).

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FAITH PARTNER

As people of faith, we are called to respond to our neighbors’ needs, acting as God’s hands and feet in service to the world. When we come together to help people build better futures for themselves and their families, we actively participate in doing God’s work in the world. Habitat for Humanity is currently building four homes in Charles City County, and Westover Church serves as a faith partner in prayer, volunteering, and financial support.

Spreading the word

In the last few years, for both youth and adults, Westover has undertaken several short-term mission trips. Members have traveled to the Dominican Republic, the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana, Hurricane Katrina relief at Camp Care in Mississippi, and Appalachian Outreach.
