Westover Cemeteries

Welcome to the Westover cemeteries. Westover has 3 cemeteries. The largest one is at the church with a smaller one at Upper Westover, which is the original location by Westover Plantation. The third cemetery is located closer to Williamsburg off Route 5 at the church’s former Mapsico location, which was discontinued in the 1920’s.

This list includes people who had funerals at Westover but may have been buried elsewhere. These are noted where known. The list also includes several people who had funerals at their homes and were buried at home but were conducted with Westover clergy. This list is based on the review of the following items:

  • tombstones,
  • church registers,
  • historic documents stored at the Virginia Library,
  • the Charles City Historical Society review of church cemeteries,
  • a plaque at Upper Westover, and
  • Find a Grave.

All of these documents are available on the website.

Tombstones and other information for most people can be viewed by using the links to Find a Grave. Most people will be found in the link to Westover Parish Church Cemetery.

Please note that most of the January 1 dates were added where only the year was known. Also note that the church only has one tombstone from before the Civil War. The Union soldiers used Westover during the war, and removed all the tombstones when they left.

Also note the church has worked hard to protect the accuracy of this information, but given the nature of the documents and age, you may find an error. If so, please email the church and let us know. Westoverchurch9@verizon.net.

Thanks and enjoy.
