MUSIC

Music is an extremely important part of worship at Westover Church. The congregation enjoys singing a wide variety of hymns and service music from The 1982 Hymnal and other sources. Guest vocalists and instrumentalists often enrich the music.

Westover is blessed with a very good pipe organ, very likely the only one in Charles City County. The original organ, given by Arthur and Julia Sackett in 1969, was a small manual (keyboard) instrument with very few pipes. In 1996, the organ was enlarged to two manuals with a number of additional pipes and sounds from various sources. Some were built for this organ and some came from other sources, including the former organ of St. James’s Episcopal in Richmond.

ORGANIST EDWARD SCHUTT

Edward Schutt came out of his second retirement from church music in January 2016 to follow his good friend and colleague Greg Vick at Westover Church. The proud son of William H. Schutt, respected organist and choirmaster at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Richmond for 34 years, Mr. Schutt served as organist and choirmaster at Richmond’s Westminster Presbyterian Church for 30 years and at its Christ Ascension Episcopal Church for 12 years.
