The Vestry

Mary Lou Rowe

Mary Lou Rowe

Senior Warden, 2026

Mary Lou is a cradle Episcopalian who grew up in the oldest Episcopal church in Western New York State. She and her husband, Bob, came to the Autumn Pilgrimage in 2004 and joined the church soon after that. Mary Lou has been on the hospitality committee and has contributed to many other ministries at Westover Church. Prior to Covid, her greatest accomplishment was serving as co-chair of the Autumn Pilgrimage for five years with her husband.  Mary Lou’s career began as a teacher of the deaf, teaching every level from parent-infant programs through graduate school. She has been involved in numerous other positions after teaching.  Mary Lou and Bob love Westover Church and the congregation and consider it a great honor to serve on the vestry.

Mitch Bowman

Mitch Bowman

Junior Warden, 2025

Mitch enthusiastically accepts the nomination to serve on the vestry for Westover Parish. As a lifelong member, he spent his early years in the Westover rectory when his father was rector and returned to the church in 1988 following service in the USAF.  Mitch and Fara raised their family in the church, as both of their children were baptized, confirmed, and served as acolytes.

Mitch has supported the church’s efforts during the annual Autumn Pilgrimage and Garden Week, and he looks forward to supporting and expanding the church’s current and future contributions to its members and the greater Charles City community.

She previously served on the vestry as senior warden during a time of transition for our church. Raiford loves her church family, and wants Westover to continue to be a welcoming presence in our community.

GUY ARCHER

GUY ARCHER

2025

Guy grew up attending St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond. His father moved to Charles City some 45 years ago, joining Westover; and so Guy has often attended services and participated in Westover events during all of this time, very much at home in its wonderful community. He officially joined Westover last year, inspired by its ministry, its role in the Charles City community, and its support for those in need, including local Afghan refugees and those in war-torn Ukraine.

SARAH RUFFIN

Sarah has been a lifelong Episcopalian and a member of Westover for 30 plus years. She grew up in Richmond where she attended St. James Episcopal Church. Sarah has served on alter guild for 25 years and also helps with numerous church ministries.

Kay Tyler

Kay Tyler

2026

Kay was married to her husband, William, at Westover in 1993 and made Westover her church home soon after. They have split their time between Charles City and their home in Richmond while raising their three children, now young adults.

She served as a member of the Westover Vestry in the late 1990s and was a past chair of the Autumn Pilgrimage and long-time supporter of this important community event.

Early childhood education and her love of music merged in 2019 when she was trained to be a Music Together Specialist and taught preschoolers (virtually and in person) at The St. James’s Children’s Center and Richmond Public Schools from 2019-2022.

Kay has volunteered for several organizations including board seats on SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) for nine years and The Dogwood Preschool from 2019-2023, which she helped create during COVID.  She presently serves as president of The Boxwood Garden Club until 2025 and is a member (and past president) of Windsor Farms Garden Club.

Kay is honored to be considered to be a member of the vestry at Westover.

Hunt Whitbeck

Hunt Whitbeck

2026

I was born and raised in New York City where my family attended The Brick Presbyterian Church. At age 12, I even gave the “children’s sermon” to the whole congregation from the pulpit!

After elementary school in New York, I went to boarding school in Exeter, New Hampshire and then to Harvard and Harvard Business School, before serving three years in the Air Force. I started my career in banking and investment management in 1970 back in New York, where Kathy and I were married and raised our son and daughter.

We moved to Williamsburg in 2011, a few years after I retired. Kathy discovered Westover in 2013, loved it immediately and brought this lapsed Presbyterian along with her. We like to volunteer whenever we can, and we even launched the now-popular box lunch sales during Garden Week and the Autumn Pilgrimage.

Roughly six years ago, April recruited me for the Stewardship role, and shortly thereafter, the Bishop oversaw my rebirth as an Episcopalian. I care deeply for this special church and am honored to play any useful role in its support.
